I am so glad to see this come through my watch list right now. I just had to turn down two dream jobs, so I am experiencing a small amount of therapeutic empathy by examining this head that is trying so hard to cease to exist in its familiar form.
Not at all; thanks for asking. I just don't want to bomb people with sob stories. There is definitely a time and place for that. Yes, art that speaks to people is invaluable. Thanks for making so much of that type of art!! I would love to teach at a community college. The focus is on instruction and not on publication. It's an ideal environment for someone like me who just wants to teach people who come from diverse backgrounds and who are capable of thinking for themselves or are ready to be taught how to think for themselves. However, my husband convinced me that anything less than full time so far away from home isn't feasible. The two offers were merely adjuncting positions in Michigan. I need to adjunct a lot more before getting FT, but I don't see that happening in Oregon. I've tried getting into a CC for five years in a stagnant state. And then I get all of this positive attention from Michigan. Just really depressing, all of that.
I hear ya. It's amazing how much life gets in the way of life. lol It's challenging enough getting into a position to teach, only to be denied the opportunity because of lame circumstances. It's a gutting experience, to be sure.
