When The Gods Disappoint You

Journal Entry: Fri Apr 6, 2012, 10:09 PM
Have you ever admired or idolized someone famous (i.e. your idol, hero, mentor, etc.), only to find out they're horrible people? Or that they're complete hypocrites? Or assholes? Or something along those lines, that negatively changed your perception of them forever? If yes, please share via a comment.

Examples of 'someone famous' might be famous painters, writers, musicians, athletes, actors, directors, etc. (no politicians, that's a given and far too easy). They can be either dead or living people (and undead :p ).

An example of my own:

Francis Bacon - As far as painters go, Bacon is in my top 5 (just for his painting). However, Bacon was a first-rate asshole. He was notoriously rude, outspoken to a fault, an attention whore, very arrogant and he used people on all fronts. I more-or-less expected him to be eccentric and possess some of those qualities (I possess a few of them myself) but he took that bullshit to the next level. Do you have to like an artist to like their art? No but I'd prefer the artists I really like not to be (or have been) complete douchebags.

glenn danzig is kinda tool but i still like him. same with henry rollins. and varg vikernes. i found that i'm unable to hate someone who produced such wonderful work, that became such an important part of my life. i kinda even sympathize with charlie manson :/

Is it possible that anyone who demands that others know how great they are is just another walking-wounded ego waiting for a sucker to buy in so they can cash out?

Morgan Freeman.
He always plays these noble amazing characters, but in real life, hes a womanizer and possibly a pedophile.
Hes worse than Woody Allen, but at least Woody Allen was a sleazeball on the outside as well as the inside.

ugh, that guy sends a wave of revulsion through my entire being.
Hes so smarmy and greasy.
I imagine he must smell terrible, and I have nothing to base that on, aside from the vibe I get when I see his face or hear his voice. LOL

There aren't many people in the world who turn my stomach in such a manner, but he really does it.

Hahaha. See and I know exactly what you're talking about and that's one of the reasons he's brilliant! :P
